Callas
A typical village with character
A French commune located in the Var department of the PACA region, Callas is a first-rate tourist destination. Nestled in a privileged location between the sea and the mountains, the village enjoys a Provencal climate that is much appreciated by tourists. The biodiversity and diversity of the landscape make it a haven of peace for nature-lovers and those seeking peace and quiet to recharge their batteries.
Callas is a typical Basses-Alpes village, with narrow calade streets, vaulted passageways and squares with flowing fountains. Famous for its olive trees, Callas had no fewer than 23 mills in operation in the 19th century. Today, you can still visit the old mill or take a hike in the wild Pennafort Gorge, just a stone’s throw from the village. For those wishing to camp in Callas, the Les Pêcheurs campsite in Roquebrune sur Argens is about 30 minutes’ drive from the village, or about 24 km, if you take the D25 road.
